Quotations to Remember

It’s a shame we don’t know the identity of the person who wrote the following very beautiful lines to a cat. But all we can find is that writer is “anonymous.”

Certainly, though, this is a quotation to be remembered:

“You see the beauty of the world

Through the eyes of unalloyed content.

And in my study chair upcurled,

Move me to pensive wonderment.

I wish I knew your trick of thought,

The perfect balance of your ways;

They seem an inspiration caught

From other laws in older days.”

  1. Very nice. The Author clearly has a reverence for cats. It reminds me of something Hemingway, Whitman, Thoreau (spelling may be wrong) or even Mark Twain would have written.

Here are more quotes about cats, pets and animals in general that you might enjoy:

“The soul is the same in all living creatures, although the body of each is different.” ~ Hippocrates

“For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love.” ~ Pythagoras

“If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve the man, but it would deteriorate the cat.” ~ Mark Twain

“The smallest feline is a masterpiece.” ~ Leonardo da Vinci

“The ideal of calm exists in a sitting cat.” ~ Jules Reynard

“As anyone who has ever been around a cat for any length of time well knows, cats have enormous patience with the limitations of the human mind.” ~ Cleveland Amory

“An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language.” ~Martin Buber

“Life is life–whether in a cat, or dog or man. There is no difference there between a cat and a man. The idea of difference is a human conception for man’s own advantage.” ~Sri Aurobindo

“Life is life’s greatest gift. Guard the life of another creature as you would your own because it is your own. On life’s scale of values, the smallest is no less precious to the creature who owns it than the largest.” ~Lloyd Biggle Jr.

“I care not much for a man’s religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.”
    ~Abraham Lincoln

“I have studied many philosophers and many cats. The wisdom of cats is infinitely superior”
    ~ Hippolyte Tain
